Tasting Notes

How cute. A tripping piglet with x’s for eyes, floating around in a nebulous void. That’s the art on the label, and, conveniently, also how I feel while drinking this bracing, bitter, blood orange-y carbonation situation: like a tender baby pig on psychedelics who just wants out. There’s such a boozy bite on the first sip, hell, entire glass, that it’s hard to taste much of anything other than the burn of alcohol. But if you let it hang out for a few minutes after popping the top, this pet-nat gets so much more palatable, letting some juicy dark cherry-cranberry vibes shine through. Still, if you were expecting a fizzy red that goes down like raspberry syrup, this is not your wine. But if you were wondering what would happen if Hades of the underworld took over operations at Ocean Spray? Jackpot.

Pair With:

Post-Scrabble angry sex on the tiles, or a Neapolitan pizza with spicy salami, hot honey, and enough smoky char marks to bring out any speck of sweetness that this red is clearly hiding. Is it too meta to be drinking this with pork? Maybe.

Funk-o-Meter

There’s a bit of funk, but it’s forgettable, and not completely in-your-face - like “Rich Girl” by Hall & Oates.
